Javan Felix- 5’11” 190 lbs. Point Guard (Saint Augustine)
Javan Felix is one of the most talented players in the country and arguably the best in the state of Louisiana. Felix has been a winner his whole life, and has many great attributes for being an undersized point guard. Felix led Saint Augustine to a state championship his junior year, and is headed in the same direction this season. They are 31-2, and ranked number one in the state. He is a part of a Texas recruiting class that is ranked the 3rd best class for 2012 by ESPN.com. Felix and the rest of Rick Barnes’ recruits have the ability to lead Texas to big things next season.
RN: First off Javan, congratulations on your commitment to Texas. What about Texas stood out to you?
Felix: Definitely the loyalty and honesty from Coach Barnes himself. The staff is a great group, and I have developed a great relationship with them.
RN: How would you assess your team’s performance this season? Is state the main objective?
Felix: The main objective is definitely to win the state title, and to do everything to get there. Being that we won state last year, we know what we have to do in order to get there.
RN: What areas of your game would you like to improve on to become more ready when you get to Texas?
Felix: My shooting. To play in the Big 12 you have to be a great shooter, not just good.
RN: Have you set any goals for yourself while you are at Texas?
Felix: Not really. Right now my goal is just to be ready when I get there.
RN: Have you gotten the chance to talk with any of the other 2012 Longhorn commits?
Felix: Yes, all of them. We all keep in touch, and we all are looking forward to the experience and challenge.
RN: What are you most looking forward to once you step on campus?
Felix: Just the atmosphere and the college life. And, the people from different places. I am very fortunate to have an opportunity to be a part of that.
RN: Who in your life has made the biggest impact on and off the court?
Felix: My mom and dad. They give me advice on everything.
RN: Any hidden talents?
Felix: I play the drum set if that counts, haha.
